FAQs

  • What does Aatma mean?
We chose a word that exemplifies what we are all about.  The word ‘Aatma’ translates into ‘Soul’ or ‘Self Consciousness’ from Sanskrit.  Plus, we figured it sounds cool and no one else registered the URL yet.
  • What’s with the Olympic rings in your logo?
Rings and circles in symbolism have been around forever.  For us, each ring symbolizes a particular aspect of our life, be it our career, role as a wife, husband, sister, brother, etc.  The intersection of these rings is a reminder that what we do in one aspect of our lives carries over into all other aspects.  Our goal is for health and fitness to be one of these rings in your life.
  • What do you guys think of Crossfit?
We think it’s a great training methodology.
  • What do you guys think of Yoga?
Yoga has been a godsend to the health and fitness industry.
  • What do you guys think of Zumba?
Zumba makes fitness look like way too much fun!
  • What do you guys think of Brazilian Jiujitsu, Boxing, or Muay Thai?
All martial arts serve a practical purpose, to be able to defend one’s self.  The fact that most martial arts also place importance on physical fitness makes martial arts very compelling.
  • What do you guys think of Spinning?
    Huge fans!
  • Is there anything you guys don’t like?
Not really.  There are lessons to be learned in all disciplines and physical activities.  We encourage you to be curious and expose yourself to different classes and workouts.  We’re here to help coach and lead you to living an active lifestyle!
  • I don’t see a whole lot of equipment and cardio machines at Aatma like I do at other gyms.  What gives?
While we don’t think that sitting on a strength machine or running on a treadmill is a bad thing, over time these workouts can get repetitive and just plain boring.  Our goal is to keep you engaged while keeping our workouts fresh and exciting!
  • Aatma Fitness Studios seems to put more emphasis on classes and the small group thing.  Why is that?  What if I’m the type of person that likes to work out on my own?
From grade school to college and to the workplace, research has shown that the group dynamic works to promote change and overcome challenges.  Great things are accomplished in teams.  But, if you want to go at it on your own, we’ve got everything you need to make that happen.
  • I caught a glimpse of one of your staff at Theo’s the other day with a chocolate chunk brownie in his mouth.  What kind of message does this send?
Dammit, you weren’t supposed to see that!  In all honesty, we believe in balance.  As long as we are active and keep a nutritious diet, a treat every now and then isn’t a killer.  After all, we are only human!
